Rookie NBA sensation, Jeremy Lin, is garnering some additional attention because he is a devoted follower of Jesus. Some are comparing him to Tim Tebow, quarterback for the Denver Broncos, well known for his evangelical personality. However, some are saying there’s a major difference between Tebow and Lin: talent! Jeremy Lin has ignited the New York Nicks on a winning spree. I agree Lin has talent and is on fire, however I disagree that Tebow in without talent. Let’s see how the Tebow story plays out next year in the NFL …...
I just gave my wife a valentines day gift she’ll never know about (unless she reads this post). It’s a GREAT gift that every guy should consider giving her wife: I did NOT click the SI Swimsuit Edition link on my Yahoo news feed.
Every year Sports Illustrated publishes their “swimsuit edition.” It has nothing to do with swimsuits.
By not clicking that link I kept my focus on the wife I have instead of the model I don’t have. A danger guys get into is getting their priorities mixed up. If I put my wife first in...
I recently had the opportunity to watch the movie, Courageous. Wow. It is a great movie, highly recommended for families and especially for fathers. The main point of the movie is “our society has a huge problem with fatherhood waning in significance … and the solution is for Christian dad’s to embrace their God-given role as spiritual leader in the home.” I wholeheartedly endorse this observation.
The movie is about group of guys, most of whom are police officers, making a pact to become better dads. During the course...
Let’s face it … marriage can be hard sometimes. We can experience relational discomfort, pain, and hurt. When our needs remain unmet and we begin to view our spouse as “the enemy” it can be tempting to plot an escape.
Jesus challenges us to hang in there with our rotten spouse … in fact, the truth is that WE can be the rotten one. I can get so wrapped in my own needs, my own agenda, and what’s going on in my Universe I can overlook your needs and your well-being.
Jesus’ teaching in, Matthew 5:31-32...
It’s almost kick-off. My Steve and Angie will be here in a bit to watch the game with us. Hot wings, pepper rings, those little sausage things, and chocolate cake. I hope it’s a good game. There’s so much about the Super Bowl that isn’t “football,” so many of us just hope for some good football during the game!
Prediction? Giants by 7.
UPDATE: What a great game it was! Anytime the game can be won or lost on the last play, it’s exciting.
This past Sunday at Sunny Hills we had our “family day” service, with the kids in the worship service the whole time. OUR KIDS ARE AWESOME! We love the way the are so eager to participate and join in with our church family. Thanks also to Allison for her leadership in our KIDLight program.
One of the unique aspects of Sunny Hills is that we do children’s Sunday school at the same time we do our adult worship service. So, families have a choice. Kids can join the adults, or have a Bible lesson for them “on their level,
One of the cool things we do here at Sunny Hills is do a “family style” service each fifth Sunday. What does that mean?
KIDLight ages (grades K – 5) will be with the adults the whole time … usually our kids go to Sunday School while the adults are in the worship service.
Our middle schoolers remain in the worship service the whole time … usually our middle school students leave after the singing to do a Bible study designed just for them.
Because the service is packed with kids and middle school students we do...
Yeah, me too. And spend more time in the gym. Maybe read the Bible through this year.
Make some more money, that would be good. Begin that novel that’s been floating around in my head for a while.
If only I could actually make progress, you know, move past all the “want to’s” in my life and become even half of what I dream of becoming. Sometimes I feel so “stuck.” So busy with the routine of life that life is passing me by. Could somebody please help me discover REAL purpose and meaning in life.
Yes. Sunny Hi
We get more done together. There’s no “I” in “TEAM.” The US Women’s Soccer team won the World Cup, working together to do something amazing!
Being a part of a church family means having people to partner with to accomplish big things. One thing we like about sports, and we talk about sports a lot at Sunny Hills, is that it reminds us we have a coach (Jesus) and a playbook (the Bible) that helps us compete when life gets tough. We have team members that stand with us and help us get stronger.
Go team!...
That’s right, free donuts for life at Sunny Hills! Each Sunday our “donuts team” brings donuts, muffins, juice, fruit, and other snacks to enjoy before the service. We perk coffee and have hot cocoa and tea available … all free of charge.
Sometimes, when you’re new to a place it helps to “hide” behind a coffee cup. So, feel free to come early (because, sadly, sometimes the donuts DO run out!) at 9:00 to get some snacks and meet some new friends.
Remember, we want our new friends to be comfortable and...
