I’ve been at the INNOVATE church conference hosted by Thomas Road Baptist Church today. What a great experience. The speakers today were:
Jonathan Falwell, pastor of TRBC.
Charles Swindoll, next to Billy Graham, perhaps the most influential pastor of the 20th Century.
Mark Batterson, pastor of National Community Church in Washington D.C.
Ed Stetser, Missions and Research leader with LifeWay Press.
The best speaker was Jonathan Falwell, I mean he’s just very natural and relevant, a great example of what contemporary preaching is about. Swindoll was great of course and he had some really nice stories, humor, and illustrations.
So far I’d summarize the teaching like this: Be yourself, humbly being available to God to reach one person for Christ. Looking forward to tomorrow’s lineup …
This past Sunday, May 16th, we were blessed with a visit from the Wythe County Lady Ruritan Club. A nice group of ladies sat right on the front row (thanks Patsey!) and were very supportive and involved during the service. The slogan of the Ruritan Club is “Fellowship, Goodwill and Community Service.” This is also what Sunny Hills is about … so this visit was just a perfect fit. What was even BETTER was that one of the Lady Ruritans joined us on the Praise Team and added so much to the worship … thanks Marsha!
If you are looking for a great community club to get involved with, I highly recommend the Ruritan Club.
Relay for Life is a community-wide effort to support those who are fighting a diagnosis of cancer. It’s really a spectacular event in Wytheville! The event runs from 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 21 – 12:00 noon Saturday, May 22nd. Sunny Hills has a great team involved:
Alan and Kim
Byron and Barbara
Mark, Anita, and Katie
Valerie
Gail
John and Pat
Katie, Jesse, and Andy
Steven
Joyce
What an awesome team! Our theme is “Catch a Cure!” (it’s a fishing theme).
If you are at the Wytheville Relay event please stop by and say hello. Also, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday you can bid on our “silent auction” items.
We had several of our Sunny Hillers run the 1/2 and Full Marathon at the Flying Pig in Cincinatti, OH. Congratulations to each of them, especially for running in poor conditions (terrible rain!). Here are their names, linked to their results page.
