Bass Fishing in Florida, part two

Well, I’m back. Spent a whole week in Florida visiting my dad. Went fishing. 5 days of fishing.

4 bass for me. That’s not too good. One was a four pounder, big. But the other 3 were kinda small, just barely
“keepers.”

Pop did a bit better, he got 6. So, that’s 10 fish in 5 mornings of intense fishing.

Dad said something about “thermal layers” and “too hot” and “shoulda’ come next week.” Well, still I had a GREAT time. Fishing is all about catching fish, but it’s also about the process of getting ready, picking your tackle, scoping out good weed beds. Casting, and casting, and casting. “Fishing” is more than catching. So fishing is fun, especially with your dad who stops by and picks up biscuits before we load the boat.

The process of getting from “here” to “there” is important. Sometimes life doesn’t quite produce the results we desire. Sometimes we expect a big haul of bass … but it’s too hot and so they’re not biting. But, you still go fishing because it’s fun.

If you’re at the point in life where you don’t see much in the way of producing … my advice is enjoy the daily grind anyway. Fishing is pretty tedious, but with patience and a bit of luck seasoned with skill, there are results. Hang in there. Cast another lure out there. Motor on over to the other side of the lake. Or just put the rod down and talk to The Father a bit.

Catching is GREAT. But, fishing is okay, and it’s required for catching.
