Recently the verdict came down in the trial of discredited police officer Derek Chauvin’s role in the death of George Floyd.
- Guilty.
- Guilty.
- Guilty.
This has been a long year since the May 25, 2020 death of George Floyd. My emotions have been up and down all the way along. At one point, in support of our local diverse community, I participated in a ‘protest march’ in honor of George Floyd here in Wytheville. It was peaceful and meaningful. I was never scared or worried about violence erupting … until I noticed the local police had parked large trucks and equipment at all the intersections along the way, to protect the marchers from potential vehicles being used against us.
Reality set in. Our world is broken. Hate is real.
But, so is hope. This tri-fold guilty verdict has given hope for many, even if some object. What is MY part in all of this? I choose to reflect the character and mentality of Jesus in my community. If I do that, no matter the cause, protest, concern, or conflict I am on “the right side” because I stand with Jesus.
I encourage others to join me in this endeavor to shine Jesus brighter, day by day.
